Accessibility

The aim of PromoMadrid is that all people may access its web page and browse it without difficulties. For this purpose, the development of PromoMadrid.com has been based on compliance with the Guidelines of Accessibility of Web Accessibility Initiative (www.w3.org/wai). This initiative lays down international standards in the creation of contents of web pages that are accessible to everyone.

Some of the functionalities implemented by PromoMadrid to allow you to access all the contents of the web as easily as possible are:

Accessibility guidelines

The visual characteristics of the portal (type of letter, colour of font and background etc) are defined in a styles page so that the user can adjust the text to his preferences.

If a user accesses PromoMadrid.com with a browser that does not support styles page, this would not be a problem, since he could access all the contents with the CSS deactivated.

The pages have a clear structure, both for the user who sees all its contents, as well as for the person who reads the information with a screen reader or for those users who deactivate the styles sheet, etc. With this aim, the headings of sections, lists and all elements which aid general comprehension of the web site have been defined by HTML code.

The browser system has been simplified, getting rid of pop up menus, to aid the correct visualisation of the page contents for all users.

The images are used for their meaning. For this purpose we have supplied complete and competent representations of alternative text for the images, so that disabled people, who, for whatever reason, cannot see the image, understand, in any event, its full meaning.

The HTML code and CSS used are adjusted to formal grammars in order to guarantee the correct visualisation of the contents in various browsers.

Access via keyboard to the main options.

Keyboard shortcuts

Most browsers can go directly to specific links by pressing certain combinations of keys (access keys) defined in the web site. To use the keyboard shortcuts with systems based on Microsoft Windows, you use the combination of keys Quick Access Key (with Internet Explorer 4.0, Netscape, Mozilla) or ALT+Quick Access Key + ENTER Key (Internet Explorer 5 or above) or Caps + Esc to activate the Quick Access Keys in Opera. In MacOS systems the combination CONTROL+Quick Access Key can be used.

The keyboard shortcuts have been defined to access the main links on the web page. The options which can be accessed by combinations of keys are:-

“1” = Internationalisation
“2” = Invest in the Autonomous Community of Madrid
“3” = Corporate info
“4” = Browser
“5” = Change of language

Links

The majority of links whose text does not completely describe the destination, have “title” attributes with an explanation.

Whenever possible, the links are written in such a way that they are meaningful out of context. Some browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx and Opera) can extract the list of links from the current page and allow the user to browse from this list. Taking this into account, the links are not duplicated and if they are, it is because you can access identical contents from them.

There are no javascript pseudo-links. All the links can be followed with any browser, even if javascript is deactivated.

In any case, if you detect access difficulties to the contents of PromoMadrid.com, do not hesitate to contact us.
